DNSEP in Design, Creation and Territorial Projects, ésam Caen/Cherbourg — jury commendation

  • Diploma project, DNSEP
  • Thesis and territorial project
  • Interactive map, resource kit, fact sheets

My final DNSEP project, part written thesis and part design project, (In)hospitalité en territoire d’accueil (“(In)Hospitality in Host Territories”), examined how the geography of host territories shapes LGBTQ+ asylum claims in France, where asylum seekers have no choice over which reception centre or city they are assigned to.

Drawing on two years of fieldwork, including interviews with lawyers, psychologists, a former national asylum court judge, and an LGBTQI+ centre director, as well as weekly outreach sessions, workshops, and interviews with asylum seekers themselves, I produced an interactive map translating distances and waiting times into concrete costs (financial, cognitive, temporal), alongside a practical resource kit and twenty fact sheets for LGBT centres not yet engaged with this issue. The project received jury commendation.
